Argentine producer gets into distrib biz
BUENOS AIRES -- Argentine production house BD Cine has started disseminating its own films to improve profits and improve release management. Producer of economic and fest hits, like Daniel Burman's "Dos hermanos" (Brother and Sister), released Juan Minujin's "Vaquero" (Cowboy), a comedy of a disgruntled actor, on 12 prints on Thursday. BD Cine follows using a smaller sized relieve Diego and Pablo Levy's documentary "Novias -- madrinas -- 15 abos" (Brides -- Godmothers -- 15 years) in November and Burman's poker-tinged romantic comedy, "La suerte en tus manos" (All In), on 65 prints next March. Diego Dubcovsky, someone in BD Cine with Burman, mentioned self-distribution "gives more liberty for making choices and helps to make the business more desirable by permitting greater productivity of each and every film." Producer will even collect much more about B.O. receipts without any middleman, he mentioned. BD Cine has hired a booking manager and may used in-house marketing for releases, he added. Dubcovsky mentioned BD Cine already has 15 years connection with helping promote its film releases, coping with Argentine distribs like Distribution Company and Primer Plano Film Group. It's aided it to create rapport with exhibs, reducing utilization of screens, he mentioned. So, too, gets the producer's development of B.O. accomplishments. Burman's "Brother and Sister" was the next-most widely used local film of 2010 and Hernan Goldfrid's "Musica en espera" (Music on Hold) was the fifth of 2009 after topping its first week.
